Jami's In-Home Studio

From Jami: The number one thing that I attribute to my acting/modeling success is self-taping. Once I created an in-house studio for me to record, not only did I open myself to more opportunities (recording around my own schedule), but the amount I started booking increased significantly. Below is everything I personally use. Some of it is a little pricey, but the studio paid for itself for me within a month. Let me know if you have any questions!

AIRLUT Black/blue Color Octopus Style Portable and adjustable Tripod Stand Holder for iPhone, Cellphone, Camera

For auditions on the go, this is perfect to still self-record when you don't have the big camera and tripod with you. Keep it in your purse/car and you should be glad.

Davis & Sanford EXPLORERV Vista Explorer 60" Tripod with Tripod Bag

I purchased two of these. One for my camera and one for my teleprompter (scroll down to get info on this!). Very durable, inexpensive and easy to set up and use.

Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone

If you're looking for a good lavalier mic, this is a great inexpensive option.  Much better than relying on your camera microphone and this will clip right to your shirt.

iPad / Android based Teleprompter R810-4 with Beam Splitter Glass

I cannot stress enough the value of my teleprompter. This is incredible tool to appear professional and obviously cuts down on preparation time by eliminating line memorization. I downloaded the LISTEC PromptWare Plus for my iPad that you just sit inside the teleprompter. Very easy to set up and use.

Savage 107X12-1 Seamless Background Paper, 107-Inch x 12 Yards - Super White

I use a white backdrop to record every audition. While most use green and blue, I find that the white not only makes you stand out, but really makes me pop with the lighting I use.

Square Perfect 1040 SP2000 Backdrop Background Support Stand for Muslins Scenic Backdrops and Chromakey Green/Blue Screens

This frame is pretty cheap but works perfectly. I actually have a very small basement with a low ceiling and I was able to use this without any issues. Very easy to set up and provides lots of room to

Impact Collapsible Background - 5 x 7' (Black/White)

This backdrop is great for on-the-go auditions. You'll never have to worry about not having a clear wall to film on at your disposal. Folds easily and can be stored right in your trunk.

LimoStudio 700W Photography Softbox Light Lighting Kit Photo Equipment Soft Studio Light Softbox 24"X24", AGG814

These lights are amazing. I use them both coupled with a few clamp and lamp lights listed below to give my auditions a crystal clear image with no shadows or harsh looks.

Bayco SL-300 8.5 Inch Clamp Light with Aluminum Reflector

I use two clamp lights in my set up, which are very inexpensive and are great to have around as you can clamp them anywhere and can provide extra light wherever needed. I clamp mine to the base of my floor lamps.

Ikea 101.398.79 Not Floor uplight lamp, Black, White, 69-inch

I have two of these set up right next to my big photo lights to provide additional lights. They proved necessary to avoid shadows.

Hiltex® 00417 4-Inch Metal Spring Clamps with PVC Coated Handle and Tips | 4-Piece Set

These proved to be very beneficial for holding my photo paper in the place I wanted on the backdrop frame. I used two on each side. Ladies, I also picked up a second package to use on my clothes! For anything you love to wear and would like to be a little more form-fitted, just clamp one of these to the back of your clothes!

Axis 45505 3 Outlet Indoor Extension Cord, 8 Feet (white)

If you don't already have an extension cord, pick up one of these. You'll need it!

Trademark Gameroom Black Cushioned Folding Stool, 18"

You'll be surprised at how many times you'll use these. I purchased two of them as I've shot many auditions where I've needed to converse with someone in a more "relaxed" type setting.

Sony HD Video Recording HDRCX405 Handycam Camcorder

First, let me say this: You can use ANY video camera to record your auditions. No one expects these to be professional. This is the camera I use because it's small, I can play back everything as I record it, it's easy to use and I LOVE the flip screen. This way you can watch yourself in front of the lens to make sure you're centered without having to run back and forth to your camera.

Wondershare Video Editor [Download]

I use this editor to edit all of my auditions. Very easy to use.

Ecosmart 60w CFL Soft White Lightbulb-(2 Pack=8 bulbs)

All of the lights you use should be the same. I put these in the clamps and floor lamps.
